Welcome Brett Reed

We are pleased to have Brett Reed join Team Berryhill in Fresno as our spring Maddy Intern.  Brett is a junior at Fresno State majoring in Political Science. He is currently involved with the College Republicans and serves as their Financial Director. He attended Oxnard Regional Fire Academy where he received certification ranging from medical provider to weapons of mass destruction.  Brett has worked in retail, been a lifeguard, and volunteered with the Oxnard City Fire Department for two years. He also has experience in welding, repairing and operating heavy equipment, electrical work, and carpentry.

He states, “My two passions are Politics and Firefighting.  There are countless parallels that draw me to them.  The ability to adapt and overcome strenuous situations is an important trait to have in both professions.  This is a trait I possess and have refined from the different jobs I have held during my life”.

As a Maddy Intern, Brett is a valuable member of Team Berryhill and attends events for the Senator, creates and presents certificates, and helps with constituent correspondence. We are pleased to have Brett join our Fresno Office.

If you are interested in becoming a Spring Intern in my Modesto or Capitol Offices, contact Brent Finkel at 916-651-4014.

Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs Blue Button Program Makes It Easier to Get Medical Records

Dept of DefenseFor years, veterans could only access their medical service records by filing a freedom of information request.  Thankfully, this is no longer the case.  The Department of Veterans Affairs now allows veterans to easily download their records via the Blue Button program.

This new feature is available to any veteran that was discharged after 1979. If you are a veteran that meets this criteria and would like to see your record, here is what you need.

  • be a Veteran enrolled at a VA health care facility
  • be registered on My HealtheVet
  • have an upgraded account (In-Person Authenticated)

Once you have signed up and authenticated your account you will have access to the following:

  • Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) codes
  • Pay Details
  • Service Dates
  • Deployment Periods
  • Retirement Periods

If you would like more information about the Blue Button program you may visit their website here.

The 2nd Annual Fresno Food Expo Brings New Opportunities to the San Joaquin Valley’s Food Production Industry

Fresno Food ExpoThe Fresno Food Expo, happening on March 8, 2012 at the Fresno Convention Center, is a unique regional food show that was first developed as part of the City of Fresno’s economic development strategy focused on growing the San Joaquin Valley’s food production industry. Designed as a tool to expose San Joaquin Valley based food producers to greater export opportunities, the expo provides a platform to exhibit products in front of a variety of qualified buyers from the local, regional, national and international retail chains, foodservice distributors, local and California-based restaurants and chefs, large government agencies and hospitality venues, all looking to buy new, local products. Based upon success from the 2011 Fresno Food Expo, there is now room for over 100 local food companies to participate.

If you’re a local food company looking to find new buyers for your products, there are a limited number of spaces left, contact us today!

If you’re a local foodie and want to see everything the San Joaquin Valley has to offer, join us for the public portion of the Fresno Food Expo and buy your tickets today.

For more information, please contact Amy Huerta, 559/621-8362.

Register Your Vehicles for the California Ag License Plate program by April 1

Acquiring approval for a special interest license plate was a tremendous accomplishment and one that should not be wasted. It's an opportunity to show California consumers who provides their food, fiber, flora, and fuel.

Not only is this a unique opportunity to spread consumer awareness and educate others about what farmers and ranchers do, but the annual fee of $40 will go directly to support agriculture education -- California's future farming generation.

The process of registering for the Ag License Plate program is simple. Visit www.CalAgPlate.com and sign up online or fill out the form and mail it to CDFA, the plate's sponsoring agency, at P.O. Box 942872, Sacramento, CA 94271. Cars, trucks, PTI trailers, and fleet vehicles are eligible and count toward the quota of 5,000 that must be met by April 1. If the quota is not reached, all monies will be refunded.
