Republicans Applaud Governor's Proposal to Prevent Early Release of Dangerous Prisoners

Senate GOP Leader Calls it Good First Step, More Work Needed

Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) issued the following statement today after appearing with the Governor at a news conference to endorse the Governor’s plan to prevent the release of dangerous prisoners from California prisons.

“We are glad to see the Governor join Senate Republicans in making the safety of California families and communities our first priority. For years we have called upon the Governor and ruling Democrats to implement the bi-partisan agreement adopted in AB 900 (2007) that would have provided additional funding for recidivism reduction programs and increased prison capacity for violent offenders in order to prevent the court ordered release of criminals. Unfortunately, until today they chose to ignore that plan and instead dumped tens of thousands of felons into our communities through their Realignment scheme.

I am pleased the Governor is now using the ideas that Republicans sent him earlier this year to ensure that additional dangerous felons are not released into our communities.”
