Senate Democrats Block Vote on Cogdill/Kelley Appointments to Water Board

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Senate Democrats today blocked a vote to confirm Dave Cogdill and Paul Kelley, both Republicans, to the State Water Board.

“Dave Cogdill and Paul Kelley are widely regarded as experts on water and deserve to be appointed to the California Water Board regardless of their party,” said Senator Dutton. “This is a slap in the face of bi-partisan cooperation.”

“I would have voted to confirm Dave Cogdill because he is brave enough to put the state ahead of his own political consideration,” said Senate Democrat Leader Darrell Steinberg in a statement on Aug. 19, after Governor Jerry Brown announced he was removing Cogdill’s and Kelley’s appointment.

But today, Senate Democrats voted to table the Senate Republicans’ motion to vote on the appointments, effectively blocking a vote.
