Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement after the majority party in the California Legislature unilaterally hired Eric Holder, former U.S. Attorney General.
“Californians should not be forced to pay for the state legislature to hire a partisan group of D.C. attorneys based upon fear and overreaction by some politicians. Not only is today’s action premature, but it’s unclear why taxpayers should pay for an expensive outside law firm when California’s Department of Justice has over four thousand employees and almost a billion dollar budget.
“Today’s decision, made without transparency, is troubling. I hope that the majority party will take this opportunity to work across the aisle and refocus on California’s priorities. I’m committed to working with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Speaker Paul Ryan to ensure California gets what California deserves,” said Leader Fuller.
