SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement on the passing of Marian Bergeson, the first female legislator to serve in both the California State Assembly and Senate.

“Marian Bergeson is a historic Californian whose life included an unwavering commitment to education and a principled approach to public policy.  She encouraged women to enter the male-dominated world of politics and to dedicate themselves to public service. Her influence and passionate dedication stretched for decades and to all parts of California.

“While Mrs. Bergeson will be missed, her legacy will live on and continue to empower women around our state. I join many other Californians in recognizing her distinguished career and offering my thoughts and prayers to her family,” said Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield).
