In Case You Missed It: Orange County Register -- John Phillips' Op-ed: "California's gun safety sham"

SACRAMENTO – Sacramento Democrats want to reduce gun violence but instead of going after gun-toting criminals who commit crimes, they passed a bill that could help these criminals get out of prison faster.  Senate Bill 620 will strip mandatory sentencing enhancements for criminals convicted of committing a felony crime with a gun. KABC/AM 790 and CNN commentator John Phillips penned an op-ed that criticizes Sacramento Democrats for caring more about social justice than public safety.

Excerpted op-ed:

California lawmakers love gun control. Gov. Jerry Brown signed no less than six different bills designed to restrict gun and ammunition sales in the Golden State last year alone. … But at the very same time that Sacramento politicians want to punish legal gun owners, these same lawmakers just passed Senate Bill 620 — which would strip mandatory sentencing enhancements for criminals convicted of committing a felony with a gun. …  Senate Republican Leader Pat Bates, R-Laguna Niguel, for one, recognizes the hypocrisy. She told the Los Angeles Times, “In light of the Las Vegas massacre, it makes no sense for the governor to sign a bill that would give judges the ability to reduce sentences for criminals who use guns. … Any criminal who used a gun to terrorize individuals, families and communities deserves the maximum sentence available.”If California Democrats wanted to actually reduce gun violence, they’d go after those who commit crimes with guns. But they don’t. … Clearly SB620 is not about safety, it’s about “social justice.”…
