Assemblyman Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), today announced that he was appointed to serve on newly-created task forces on Reforming the State Budget and Education by Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines. Members of the task forces will study and propose common-sense reforms that will have positive impacts in our state, without increasing the deficit.
The Budget Reform Task Force will propose fiscally-responsible reforms to give lawmakers and the Governor the tools needed to balance the state budget in future years, without having to resort to raising taxes. They will work with experts from around the country to study innovative ideas that have worked in other states.
The Education Reform Task Force will work to develop reforms that will maintain high academic standards while encouraging more local control. They will study common-sense reforms that won’t add to our state’s budget problems such as giving local schools more flexibility and greater control over how they spend their budgets, increasing transparency and ensuring funding fairness for schools across California.
Huff and members of the Assembly Republican Education Reform Task Force will work to develop fiscally-responsible reforms that will positively impact our education system and empower parents and students alike – without increasing state spending or hurting the deficit. California’s $14 billion deficit presents an opportunity to make much needed reforms in our state’s education system and give school districts more flexibility during difficult budget times.
“Bob Huff has earned a strong reputation in Sacramento as a fierce defender of California taxpayers, fighting wasteful government spending and leading the charge against attempts to raise taxes on working families. His leadership will be invaluable on our Budget Reform Task Force as we explore common-sense reforms to live within our means,” stated Republican Leader Villines.
“I am looking forward to playing a significant role in reforming California’s budget system and education bureaucracy. This is a golden opportunity to take steps to address auto-pilot spending and prevent budget deficits like the one our state is currently facing from hurting our state in the future, stated Assemblyman Huff.
