Assemblyman Bob Huff Introduces Bill Denying Bail To Illegal Immigrants

AB 2418 Part of Assemblyman’s Illegal Immigration Reform Bill Package

Assemblyman Bob Huff has introduced legislation which would deny bail to any person charged with a violent felony or gang-related crime that is found to be in the United States illegally. AB 2418 will require the presiding judge in such a defendant’s bail hearing to determine their citizenship status.

“My bill will not promote the search and arrest of those who are simply in our country illegally,” stated Assemblyman Huff. “AB 2418 will call for the denial of bail to illegal immigrants who have committed violent and gang-related crimes in our communities.

“Studies have found that some of our Latino gangs in California contain a heavy illegal immigrant base,” continued Huff. “Allowing release on bail of gang members and those who commit violent felonies only increases the risk that they will flee the country, then later illegally cross the border again and commit more crimes. It is time for California to take a strong stand against those here illegally that are terrorizing our communities.”
