Assemblywoman Mimi Walters Officially Named Vice-Chair Of Assembly Committee On Appropriations

Assembly Speaker announces committee appointments

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez released committee assignments for the 2007 Legislative Session this week. Among his appointments, Assemblywoman Mimi Walters was selected as the lead Republican on the California State Assembly’s Committee on Appropriations. Her Democrat counterpart on the Committee, Assemblyman Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), served on Appropriations last session and was elevated to the Chairmanship for his third and final term in the State Assembly.

As the State’s top legislative fiscal committee, the Appropriations Committee hears every piece of legislation containing an appropriation or a fiscal impact before it reaches the Assembly Floor. In an average year, the Appropriations Committee hears approximately 1200 pieces of legislation.

Walters’ other committee appointments included seats on the Assembly Banking & Finance Committee and the Assembly Aging & Long-Term Care Committee.

“It is an honor to have been selected by Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez to serve as the Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee,” Walters said. “I am eager to assume the role of protecting California’s taxpayers as the Committee’s Vice Chair.”
