Senator Dennis Hollingsworth today responded to the Governor's budget cuts list #1
“The Governor is correctly returning the budget debate from taxes and accounting gimmicks to a frank discussion of where we must make necessary spending reductions. The millions of Californians who’ve lost jobs, homes and retirement savings realized a long time ago that they had to adjust their personal budgets. It’s high time state government did the same.” (106 KB)

Conscience Rights
“One of our fundamental rights as citizens has always been the freedom to choose according to one’s conscience and integrity. It seems unconscionable to need a law to protect medical professionals from the threat of political discrimination due to their beliefs. We cannot let a liberal minority limit our rights, and ultimately everyday citizens' access to health care. By threatening practitioners with rescinding the conscience rule, the Obama Administration has created a disincentive for doctors or nurses to practice in a drastically dwindling professional field. Scientific polling data reveals that 95 percent of medical professionals of faith would rather quit than violate their conscience.”
