Senators Berryhill, Cannella, Emmerson, and Harman today released the following statement in response to Governor Brown’s announcement about a simple majority budget:
“We are deeply disappointed that yet again the Governor and legislative Democrats have capitulated to those fighting to preserve the status quo.
“We have remained consistent – we want to give the voters the opportunity to weigh in on the future of the state. They deserve the right to vote on taxes as well as on meaningful reforms that will put the state back on track.
“The Democrats have proven once again that they are unwilling to stand up to the unions that fund their political campaigns and adamantly oppose meaningful pension reform. They didn’t want a bipartisan deal in March, and they don’t want a deal now. And, ultimately, it’s the hardworking people of California who pay the price.”
