Creating Jobs

To grow our economy and state revenues, it is imperative that we promote an environment where job creators can invest, expand and thrive.

According to Chief Executive Magazine,

The nonpartisan Tax Foundation reports California:

... has the highest sales tax in the nation.
... ranks 48th in state by state business climate competitiveness.
... has the highest corporate tax rate in the western United States.
... has the 4th highest income tax in the country.
... has the highest upper marginal income tax rate in the nation.

These figures underscore the reality facing the business owners I hear from, as well as my own experience running a small business.

My Plan to Create Jobs

Last session, I introduced Senate Constitutional Amendment 8 which outlined a bipartisan committee charged with identifying state incentives for job creation and economic growth. For the 2013-14 session, I will serve as the Vice Chair of the Select Committee on Job Creation and Retention and will work to encourage the legislature to provide stability and support for the business community.

I am also hosting a series of business roundtables throughout the year. I will be soliciting input from business owners about what regulatory reform is needed for businesses to create jobs and prosper.
