SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) released the following statement recognizing the 240th birthday of the United States Marine Corps:
“As I reflect on all of those who served in the United States Marines Corps over the past 240 years, I salute the brave men and women who joined the ranks of ‘the few and the proud’. I thank you for your selfless acts, courage, and sacrifices while contributing to the Corps’ rich history and tradition.
“This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the historic battle at Iwo Jima. Those five weeks of combat showed the world the courage and determination of the Marines. That legacy lives on today and I honor all of those who serve in this extraordinary military unit called the United States Marine Corps.”
Senator Fuller represents the 16th Senate District which includes the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow. Senator Fuller also serves on the Governor’s Military Council and works to develop strategies that support and grow military operations in the Golden State.
