Nearly 1,000 bills were sent to the governor’s desk this year, including some written by soft-on-crime Democrats aimed squarely at undermining public safety in our state.
One of the mind-boggling bills is SB 620. The bill’s basic premise is that dangerous criminals who choose to use a gun to commit their crimes should get less prison time, not more.
Currently, a criminal who uses a gun or assault weapon while committing a felony is subject to a penalty enhancement under policies like “use a gun-go to prison.” However, under SB 620, courts can choose to dismiss this sentencing enhancement.
Why would we want to allow softer, shorter sentences for criminals who use guns to commit murder, rape, mayhem or torture?
This is yet another example of one-party supermajority rule in Sacramento hurting this state.
