Sacramento – To get a more complete picture of the state’s current fiscal crisis, members of the Senate Republican Caucus met today with various state leaders, including Governor-Elect Jerry Brown.

Others who briefed the caucus included the state’s Department of Finance Director Ana Matosantos and Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor.

Following the day of briefings, Senate Republican Leader Bob Dutton and the other members of the caucus were even more convinced that the state should act immediately to begin closing the $25 billion deficit.

“Wasting time is wasting money – taxpayer money,” said Senate Republican Leader Bob Dutton. “It’s not going to be easy, but we need to get to work right now. Today’s briefings confirm that the Legislature needs to address this year’s deficit immediately, not wait until January. Any spending reductions we adopt in the current fiscal year will relieve some of the pain in next year’s budget. It’s the fiscally responsible thing to do.”
